The key in the lock and the curious cat

This morning I left the house with the key still in the lock. I was rushing, as always. I shut the door behind me and only realized out on the street that I’d left everything inside: my wallet, my phone, even the cat at the window, looking at me the way you look at someone who hasn’t understood a thing. I went back and missed the train. In the end I got there later than I would have if I’d just walked slowly.
