Tomatoes and destinies at the market

At the market stall a lady asked for a pound of tomatoes. The young guy put two bruised ones on the scale, at the bottom, under the good ones. She saw it and said nothing. The man behind her, an old man in a hat, tapped his coin twice on the counter and told him to redo the bag. The young guy redid it for both of them. The lady walked away looking at the ground.
