Silence in the family

At the table on Sunday, my brother said something he shouldn’t have. You could tell right away from the silence. My father put down his fork, looked at his plate for two seconds, and then asked my mother if there was any more water. Nobody added anything. We finished eating while talking about a game. On the way out, my brother put a hand on his shoulder and my father nodded.
